Sherry Edwards, Minister of Music and Senior Adults

My name is Sherry Murdock Edwards, and I came to Abbotts Creek Baptist Church as Minister of Music, January 1, 2007. I was born in Spruce Pine, NC to Essie and Virgil Murdock, Jr. Since I was an only child, some people would say that I was spoiled. I tend to believe I was just extremely loved! My family was members of Bear Creek Baptist Church, Bakersville, NC.

I never remember a time when we did not go to church. My daddy was a deacon and in charge of the sound room and Tape Ministry. My mom taught Sunday School and they both sang in the choir. My daddy also sang with the Bear Creek Quartet and from as long as I can remember I always went with them and began singing solos at age 3. When I was 6 years old, I asked Jesus Christ into my heart at the end of Sunday Morning service. I had no idea exactly what that meant for me that day, but I knew I love God and wanted to go to heaven when died.

During my early teenage years, the youth had the opportunity to go to Camp Caswell for youth week. Our pastor at that time told me that he believe that God had something special for my life. We started going every summer and that is where I felt God leading me to full time Christian service. In the summer of 1984, I accepted the call of God on my life at Caswell and shared it with my church.

I entered Mars Hill College and graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree, with an emphasis in Church Music. I began my serving at Bakersville Baptist Church as Music director and from there in summer of 1989 served Pine Branch Baptist Church, Spruce Pine, NC as a summer Minister of Music/Youth.

After college, I enrolled at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky and graduated with a Master of Church Music. While in seminary I served as Minister of Youth and Organist for Lynn Acres Baptist Church and returned home each summer and served at Pine Branch as minister of Music/Youth. Upon graduation from seminary, in January 1993, I returned to Pine Branch as full time Minister of Music/ Youth.

In October 1995, I met my husband, Kevin, through a mutual friend in Wise, VA. As we made our vows to become man & wife, we also became partners in ministry. God called us to First Baptist Church, Whitesburg, KY in June 1996-December 2006. In January 2007 changed our lives as we moved from Kentucky, our home of 10 years, to High Point, NC to begin our work here at Abbotts Creek. I know that God placed us here not only in the way it came about, but in the love and support given us as a result of my parents being involved in a car accident and eventually my Daddy going to be with the Lord in July 2007. He has given us a church “family” that has carried us through the most difficult time of our lives and we will forever be grateful to Abbotts Creek for their love during that time and continuing on now.

God has also blessed me & Kevin with two daughters. I never knew being a Mom would bring me so much joy! They are definitely blessing from the Lord and it is my prayer each day that they will grow to serve the Lord and be Godly women of faith!

My favorite scripture is Psalm 37:4. “Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart.” I am learning more each day about my wonderful Lord and pray that my life and ministry reflect the love, grace and forgiveness I have found in Him.

I have learned that the circumstances of our lives may not be what we would choose them to be, but our God is always faithful and will supply our every need!

Message from Our Pastor

Welcome to Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church!

Way back in 1756, a "Preaching Point" was established called Abbotts Creek Church. Our great God knew that out of this new "spiritual spring" would flow story after story of countless lives touched eternally by Abbotts Creek Church. History has taught us that this bodies' headwaters of Missions and Evangelism converged time and again to smooth out rocky places, and to touch many lives.

As its Pastor, I am humbled, as I watch Abbotts Creek "Refresh all who come, and Renew all in it's path." Isaiah 55:1 states, "Come, all who are thirsty come to the waters!" The moment you step into Abbotts Creek a babbling waterfall greets you. But the real refreshing comes in meeting old and new family members, making new friends, and being inspired in Preaching, and Music and Worship.

You must know, though, that Abbotts Creek Church is at its best when it empties herself into the lives of others. In these exciting days, our banks are overflowing whether baptizing new believers in the old outdoor pool, or literally "in" Abbotts Creek, or maybe in our beautiful Sanctuary's baptistery. Once a person tasted these Refreshing Waters, a mighty river of caring and compassion was unleashed to 4,800 hurting people through Labor of Love this past year alone. That need led to filling over 3.000 backpacks for hungry children in 4 schools. This great church's love overflowed to start Camp M & M which give a hot meal, backpacks with food, and a whole lot of love to hundreds of kids this past summer. That same Refreshing spirit started God's Garden and a great bounty of fresh vegetables for the hungry.

A true missions and evangelism heart have led Abbotts Creek Church to expand its missions borders to flow into places like tornado-ravaged Davidson County, Greenville, and Grifton, North Carolina. The love of God grew and cascaded to faraway mission places like Wyoming, Jacksonville, Florida, South Carolina, West Virginia, New Orleans, and even to Africa.

These pages are filled with Missions and Missionaries God has chosen to carry on His Good Work. So, "Come, all who are thirsty, come to the waters!" Isaiah 55:1. Now that's what I would call a true REFRESHING AT THE CREEK - Abbotts Creek Church!

Steps of FAITH

tract cover picF is for FORGIVENESS

We cannot have eternal life and heaven without God's forgiveness.

"In Him [meaning Jesus] we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins." - Ephesians 1:7a, NKJV

Forgiveness is available. It is-

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life." - John 3:16, NKJV

"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven." - Matthew 7:21a, NKJV

It is impossible for God to allow sin into heaven.

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." - John 3:16, NKJV

"For judgment is without mercy." - James 2:13a, NKJV

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." - Romans 3:23, NKJV

But how can a sinful person enter heaven, where God allows no sin?

T is for TURN

If you were driving a car down the road and someone asked you to turn, what would he or she be asking you to do? ........ CHANGE DIRECTION!

Turn means repent.

TURN from something - sin and self

"But unless you repent you will all likewise perish." - Luke 13:3b, NKJV

TURN to Someone - trust Christ only

"Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and He was buried, and He rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures." - 1 Corinthians 15:3b-4, NKJV

"If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." - Romans 10:9, NKJV

H is for HEAVEN

Heaven is everlasting life.

"I have come that they may have life, and have it more abundantly." - John 10:10b, NKJV

"And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also." - John 14:3, NKJV

How can a person have God's forgiveness, heaven and everlasting life, and Jesus as personal Savior and Lord?

Forsaking All I Trust Him

"Dear Jesus, I believe that You died on the cross for my sins and that You arose from the grave. I now ask You to forgive me of my sins, and to save my soul. Amen"
